  • When Should You Avoid Epoxying a Floor?

Epoxy can experience adhesion issues under certain conditions. It doesn't adhere well in very cold temperatures or in humid, high-moisture areas like basements or bathrooms. Poor adhesion can cause the epoxy coating to crack and peel. Therefore, it's essential to carefully consider the specific placement of the epoxy coating.

  • What Should Be Done Before Applying Concrete Stain?

Here are the key steps to take before applying concrete stain:

    • Remove all previous sealers, paints, adhesives, and coatings completely.
    • Thoroughly clean the surface.
    • For acid concrete stain, prepare the surface with a concrete etch and cleaner, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid using muriatic acid, as it will destroy the minerals that create the stain's color range.
    • To clean the surface for a water-based stain, use dish soap and water. For oil spots, use a degreaser and neutralizer dil uted in a 4:1 ratio. Finally, rinse the concrete thoroughly.
    • If the concrete surface is too smooth or dense to absorb water, it will require mechanical sanding to roughen the surface, allowing it to accept the stain.
  • What Types of Spray Textures Are Available?

A spray texture application enhances a wall with visual interest and physical texture. There are three types of spray texture.

    1. Popcorn - Also known as acoustic or cottage cheese texture, it features a bumpy, irregular appearance resembling small popcorn kernels. Commonly applied to ceilings, this texture helps conceal imperfections and absorb sound, providing a rustic and textured finish.
    2. Orange Peel - This texture resembles the subtle, dimpled surface of an orange peel. It provides a smooth yet textured finish that hides minor flaws and adds visual interest to walls and ceilings.
    3. Sand - This texture has a gritty, sandy appearance, created by incorporating fine sand particles into the paint mixture. It provides a more textured, tactile finish, similar to sandpaper. This adds depth and dimension to surfaces, enhancing their visual appeal while helping to mask imperfections.
  • How Do Professionals Paint Trim? Is Sanding Necessary Before Repainting Trim?

If the trim is new or already smooth, lightly sand it with 120-grit sandpaper before painting. If the trim is pitted or rough, start with 80-grit sandpaper and gradually move to 120-grit sandpaper. You don’t need to completely remove all the old paint before adding new paint.

  • How Many Coats of Paint Do You Need for New Drywall?

Once the seams are taped and finished, we suggest applying two coats of high-quality paint for a smooth, even finish.
